My Reading Tutors offers personalized, one-on-one reading tutoring sessions to children and adults of all ages. We specialize in using the Orton-Gillingham approach to help people master reading, writing, spelling, and phonological awareness. We also offer tutoring in the following subjects: Language Arts, Reading, Writing, Spanish, French, ESL, Public Speaking, and Test Taking Skills.
Our Approach
Our tutors are certified in Orton-Gillingham, an evidence-based method designed to help struggling readers. We break down reading into manageable steps, allowing students to master phonics, decoding, and comprehension. By using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic techniques, we engage all learning pathways to ensure the material sticks. Additionally, our tutors are subject matter experts and experienced teachers. We come from backgrounds that include Montessori, homeschooling, unschooling, and traditional education philosophies.
Personalized Lessons
All our tutoring sessions are customized to fit your needs. We do a thorough initial assessment of every student so we can get a clear picture of the learner's strengths and growth areas. We then make sure to focus on the skills your learner needs to master. Whether you need a tutor a few times a month or ongoing weekly sessions, we can create a plan that works for your family. We offer tutoring sessions both in-person and online.
